The Jaguar F-Pace SVR is kind of the unsung hero of the performance SUV world. It's a small, nimble package with the biggest engine on the block, which could explain the way it performed in a recent drag race against the G63 and Afa Romeo Stelvio QV.
But Jaguar is working on an update for the entire range, which is beginning to show its age. Some sharper styling will trickle down from the average F-Pace models to this hardcore version, as we see on this prototype testing at the grueling Nurburgring. The F-Pace has been, after all, the company's best selling and most profitable model since it came out.

We've got a lot of new features at the front of this car, including a revised main grille, new intakes, and narrower LEDs within the existing cluster. The thing is looking modern and, on big black wheels, pretty menacing too. Around the back, things look the same, but that could just be temporary until the people who make taillights are back from vacation.

There was the rumor about Jaguar switching from its own V8 to the one made by BMW. But we've listened to this Nurburgring spy video a couple of times and can't make out the trademark sounds of the 4.4-liter bi-turbo unit.

Obviously, we'd be happy with the Bavarian unit too, since it puts out more power when tuned, but BMW doesn't like to share its best stuff. Just look at the Toyota Supra interior, compared to the Z4, and you'll understand. So you'd probably see a downgrade to the 530 HP unit in the M850i here.

Anyway, we're quite happy with the current SVR setup, a 550 horsepower supercharged monster for €101,000. This is probably the best soundtrack you can buy in an SUV right now, up there with the Rambo Lambo.
