Like the 2021 Hyundai Tucson, the Genesis GV70 appears to be a work-in-progress for the time being. The luxurious crossover with the profile of a coupe also features Recaro bucket seats and a roll cage, items you won’t find in the series-production model.
The five-spoke wheels, taillights, and cutouts for the tailpipes also appear unfinished, which means that Genesis has a lot of work to do before the start of production. A compact luxury crossover aimed at the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe and BMW X4, the GV70 features split horizontal headlights and an imposing grille to boot.

A pair of recesses in the front bumper are there for better cooling for the front brakes, and the athletic silhouette is complemented by a rear aerodynamic diffuser. Likely to share the underpinnings of the G70 compact executive sedan, the newcomer should be offered with rear- and all-wheel drive as well as four- and six-cylinder engines.

The range should start with the 252-horsepower turbo, and at the other end of the spectrum, the 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 in the Kia Stinger should do the trick with 365 ponies on full song. In terms of torque, look forward to 260 and 376 pound-feet (353 and 510 Nm).

It is believed the GV70 will arrive at dealerships in 2021, but it’s not clear if we’re dealing with a 2021 or 2022 model year. The larger, mid-size GV80 will go official anytime now, as soon as the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show if the rumor mill is to be taken for granted.

Instead of Mercedes-Benz and BMW, we also expect Genesis to undercut the Germans so much that the pricing would rival the likes of Infiniti and Acura. In this segment, the two luxury brands from Nissan and Honda feature the QX50 with the 2.0-liter VC-Turbo engine and RDX with the 2.0-liter VTEC Turbo. Speaking of pricing, the establishment starts at $37,250 and $37,600, respectively, excluding the destination charge.

If you were in the market for a mid-sized crossover, would you give Genesis your consideration?
