For the second model year of the Shelby GT500, the Ford Motor Company has made a few changes to the muscled-up pony from Flat Rock. For starters, three new exterior color options have been added.
Grabber Yellow, Carbonized Gray Metallic, and Antimatter Blue Metallic replace four colors in total according to our friends at Ford Authority. In no particular order, the discontinued finishes are Grabber Lime, Wimbledon White, Magnetic, and Kona Blue. The changes don’t end here, though, because this is where the Carbon Fiber Handling Package enters the scene.
Priced from $10,000 and slotted between the Handling Package and Carbon Fiber Track Package, the go-faster option includes adjustable strut top mounts, black carbon-fiber wheels, and a wheel locking kit. Splitter wickers, a Gurney flap, as well as a catch can round off the list of goodies.
Obviously enough, this option is closer to the Handling Package than the Carbon Fiber Track Package. The latter improves the Shelby GT500 with exposed carbon instead of black paint for the carbon-fiber wheels, carbon fiber for the GT4 wing and instrument panel, Michelin super-sticky rubber, a rear-seat delete, Recaro buckets up front, and Miko suede seat upholstery.
Just like before, the 5.2-liter supercharged V8 Ford calls Predator cranks out 760 horsepower and 625 pound-feet (847 Nm) of torque as long as you feed the Shelby GT500 with premium fuel. The suck-squeeze-bang-blow is channeled to the rear wheels by a seven-speed DCT developed by Tremec. By comparison, the Tremec transaxle in the mid-engine Corvette Stingray offers one more forward ratio in conjunction with a small-block V8 engine.
Elsewhere in the range, the 2021 model year will see the addition of the Mach 1 to the detriment of four variants. In addition to the Shelby GT350 and GT350R, the Bullitt special edition and Mustang GT Performance Pack 2 have also been discontinued. The Mustang Mach 1, which is described as the pinnacle of Coyote performance, retails from $51,720 excluding freight.
