After successfully introducing the recently crowned 2021 North American Utility and Truck of the Year (the Mustang Mach-E and F-150) in the United States, Ford seems to focus on carefully plotting its EV course around the entire world.
We recently found out that its first battery electric crossover, the Mustang Mach-E, will soon turn into a Made in China model as the Changan Ford joint venture will handle local assembly for the world’s largest automotive market.

Now it’s time to check out the Mach-E's progress on the Old Continent. More precisely, in the United Kingdom – despite Brexit, we still count the country as part of the European region, whether people there like it or not.

Ford doesn't bother itself with such trifle matters and instead is very much interested in providing the best possible charging experience for upcoming buyers of the battery-powered Mustang. First on the market, hitting dealerships sometime this spring will be the high-performance Mustang Mach-E.

This version is equipped with the extended-range battery and all-wheel drive, meaning it should be good for a quick 5.1-second sprint to 62 mph (100 kph) and a WLTP-estimated driving range of up to 335 miles (539 km) – the RWD model should be even better, as it targets a WLTP rating of 379 miles (610 km). With the battery capable of lasting quite a bit, the Mach-E is still going to need access to an extensive charging network.

Ford is taking care of the problem even before it arises, as the company just announced a “more than threefold” increase in the size of the charging network awaiting upcoming Mustang Mach-E customers. The expansion seems spectacular, but the increase is only logical, as it comes through an extension of the automaker’s long-running business relation with bp (formerly the British Petroleum Company).

Thus, Ford increased the number of available charging points for its own Ford Pass network from less than 3,000 to approximately 9,500 through the addition of its partner’s bp pulse, the largest public charging network in the United Kingdom. The latter was created in December 2020 as a combination of the bp Chargemaster and Polar networks.

Through FordPass, UK owners of the Ford Mustang Mach-E will be able to “locate, navigate to, monitor and pay for charging at over 6,600 charge points” belonging to the bp pulse network. The latter includes high-powered 150kW DC chargers, 50kW DC units, and almost 6,000 regular 7kW AC points. Better yet, Mustang Mach-E drivers will also be granted with a year’s worth of free access to bp pulse.
