Previously thought to arrive in April 2019, the Mach E is expected to go official in November 2019 according to a Ford spokesperson. The name is not official, but as opposed to the initial proposal of Mach 1, it’s far better and sits much better with Mustang enthusiasts.
The Detroit Bureau reiterates that the electric crossover will be “Mustang-like” as per the Ford Motor Company’s own words, and that sounds terribly similar to what Chevrolet did to the all-new Blazer with Camaro influences. It is believed that two electric motors will be offered – one in the rear and another one up front – to provide all-wheel drive.

“More than 300 miles” of range are expected from the Mexico-built electric crossover, which means the Model Y will play second fiddle to the Mach E if this is the EPA-rated estimate. Under the WLTP, the peeps at Ford claim 370 miles of range in the Old Continent or 34 more miles than the Model Y with the largest battery option available.

Speaking to Dave Pericak, the director of enterprise product line management told The Detroit Bureau that “Ford Icons” are of utmost importance for the Blue Oval. That’s the Mustang for you, along with the Shelby GT350 and GT350R if you were wondering. The big news is that “we intend to continue to give them [customers] the manual transmission.”

General Motors is stepping away from the three-pedal setup with the eighth generation of the ‘Vette, which comes exclusively with a dual-clutch transmission. Ford pulled a similar stunt with the Shelby GT500, which isn’t available with a manual for the 2020 model year.

Turning our attention back to EVs, the Ford Motor Company is slated to receive the MEB vehicle architecture from the Volkswagen Group for battery-electric vehicles. Considering how the Blue Oval dragged its feet for nearly a decade when it comes to electric cars, we wouldn’t be surprised if the ID.3 receives different badges inside and out along with different bodywork.

Scheduled to arrive at dealerships in 2020 for the 2021 model year, the Mach E will be joined by two electric crossovers in 2022 for the 2023 model year. These are expected to be the size of the Ford Edge and Lincoln Nautilus, a segment above the Mach E.
