Alongside the mid-size Bronco, the Ford Motor Company rolled out the Bronco Sport on July 14th with Escape underpinnings. The unibody crossover will be the first to enter production, and Job 1 is scheduled for the 26th of October.
Ford Authority reports that the order banks opened concomitantly with the reservations. At the moment, buyers can opt for the Base at $26,660 excluding destination charger and optional extras. The Big Bed, Outer Banks, and Badlands are also available from $28,160 to $32,660 while the First Edition has been spoken for. If off-road capability is what you’re after from the compact-sized unibody utility vehicle, look no further than the Badlands.
Essential features of the Bronco Sport in this configuration include the advanced 4x4 system, no fewer than seven Go Over Any Terrain driving modes, four bash plates, trick suspension, and 29-inch Falken Wildpeak A/T tires. Instead of conventional alloys, the Badlands flaunts “steelie” aluminum wheels.
One of the more controversial aspects of the Bronco Sport is the entry-level engine. The 1.5-liter EcoBoost may develop 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque, but it’s a three-cylinder plant as opposed to the optional mill. Level up to the 2.0-liter EcoBoost, and you’re treated to one more cylinder, 245 ponies, 275 torques, better cooling, and the eight-speed transmission from the base engine.
Speaking of controversial things, have a guess where the Bronco Sport is made. No, it’s not Wayne in Michigan alongside the Bronco and Ranger but Hermosillo in Mexico. The Ford Motor Company picked its southern neighbor for the Mustang Mach-E crossover as well, which is a Mustang only in badge and nameplate.
The biggest rival for the Bronco Sport comes in the guise of the Jeep Compass, which has the upper hand over the Badlands in Trailhawk spec. For reference, the base model with all-wheel drive kicks off at $23,780 while the off-road version with the Trail Rated badge is $29,850 excluding freight.
