Presented four years ago, the second generation of the Duster can be specified as a pickup with a single cab from a third party. Coachbuilder Romturingia is responsible for the Duster Pick-Up, which comes exclusively in white for the exterior and the 1.5-liter blue dCi in Dacia's home market.
A far cry from body-on-frame pickups in terms of capability, the unibody workhorse with Renault underpinnings features a payload of 500 kilograms (1,102 pounds) and a cargo volume of up to 1,000 liters (35.3 cubic feet).
Just like every other Duster, the 16-inch wheels can be changed with tracks at great expense. French company Garage 4x4 Balleydier is much obliged to demonstrate this setup on a gray-painted example of the breed, and the rubber shoes fitted to this vehicle come courtesy of ACF Industrie.
Available to order independently as a set of four tracks from Mudster, these bad boys retail at 72,146 RON or the equivalent to €14,800 at the current exchange rates. Add €22,546 on top of that sum for the Duster Pick-Up, and you’re looking at a total of €37,346 or $44,920.
That’s the kind of money that gets you a well-equipped Ranger with a ladder-frame chassis and a proper cargo area, but we’re missing the point here. This fellow is all about off-road adventure, and if you were wondering, the bolt-on tracks from ACF Industrie are also at home on paved roads.
Covered by two years of warranty, the go-anywhere shoes weigh 111 kilograms (245 pounds) per corner, which is a lot of heft for the four-cylinder engine of the Dacia Duster Pick-Up that peaks at 260 Nm (192 pound-feet). Oh, and by the way, this glorious-looking conversion also restricts the top speed to just 60 kilometers per hour (37 miles per hour).
On that note, forget about the Duster Pick-Up if you’re planning on venturing off-road with rubber tracks. ACF Industrie can spruce up any mid-size truck this way, including the Ford Ranger mentioned earlier.
