Even though the 2020 Corvette is scheduled to restart production next week and run until the end of October, Chevrolet has opened the order books for the 2021 Corvette today. The second model year is scheduled to roll off the assembly line in Bowling Green, Kentucky on November 2nd.
GM Authority points out that dealers received a message from General Motors in this regard, explaining the change of plans rather simply. The “purpose in advancing 2021 model year ordering is to enable you and your existing customer to create a replacement 2021 order.” In other words, you can blame the health crisis that kept the U.S. automotive industry on its toes.

So, what can we expect from the second model year?

For starters, the "Stingray R theme graphics and wheel cap" package could borrow some of the styling of the Corvette Racing C8.R flat-plane crankshaft V8 land missile. A C8.R indoor rendered car cover is also coming, likely inspired by the Premium Indoor Car Cover with Fully Rendered Corvette C7.R from a few years ago. The latter option retails at $1,195.

According to a leaked document from the Global Connect Order WorkBench, the magnetic suspension will be a standalone option for 2021 on non-Z51 Performance Package cars. The configurator for the 2020 Corvette lists magnetic ride control at $1,895 as opposed to $5k for the whole nine yards.

On the aesthetic front, the exterior color palette will welcome Crystal Red Metallic and Red Mist Tintcoat. The Stingray is also going to add Stinger graphics and a whole lot of stripes. Level up to the 3LT trim, and customers can also specify Trim Suede Strike Yellow with Sky Cool Gray or Leather Jet Black with Sky Cool Gray upholstery for the seats of the mid-engine 'Vette.

Last, but certainly not least, Apple CarPlay goes wireless and it’s standard on all three trims. Speaking of which, Visible Carbon Fiber availability will be extended to the LPO high-wing option and door intake trim.

As for the C8 Corvette Z06, well, it’s understood that Chevy has pushed it back to the 2022 model year. Like the C8.R, the Zee-Oh-Six will feature a 5.5-liter DOHC V8 with a high-revving character. Codenamed LT6, this motor is expected to crank out 600 horsepower (608 PS) and 470 pound-feet (637 Nm) based on the latest info available at the time of writing.
