2021 Chevrolet Traverse Features Chintzier Exterior Design, 8” Driver Display

Except for the mistake that was the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder LTG in a three-row crossover, the Traverse is a pretty interesting choice in the mid-size segment. Not only is it spacious beyond belief, but at $29,800 for the 2020 model year, the front- and all-wheel-drive utility vehicle is far better value than the body-on-frame Tahoe at $50k.

In the end, however, we’re comparing apples with oranges here. Unibody is a seriously different affair from proper SUVs, and every U.S. automaker is willing to charge a premium for the latter despite the simpler chassis design in order to profit a lil’ more.

The commercial success of the Traverse is obvious. 147,122 units were sold in the U.S. last year, up from 146,534 in 2018. The Tahoe, by comparison, dropped from 103,306 to 98,961 examples of the breed in 2019. Even though the crossover’s momentum is alright, the golden bowtie decided that it’s high time for the mid-cycle refresh to breathe new life into the Traverse for the 2021 model year, new styling included.

Speaking of the exterior design, that’s probably the lowest point of this facelift. There’s so much going on at the front and rear fascias, it’s not too hard to believe that Chevrolet’s design board decided to integrate every idea on the table into the 2021 model year. Thankfully, the interior’s styling is a little more conventional, easier on the eyes.

New seating options, an 8.0-inch driver information display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a power sunshade for the rear panel of the Dual SkyScape are the biggest changes from the pre-facelift model. On the safety front, additional features come standard. These include Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Front Pedestrian Braking, and Automatic Emergency Braking in addition to Forward Collision Alert, Following Distance Indicator, and the IntelliBeam high-beam headlights.

As far as the oily bits are concerned, a nine-speed automatic transmission is matched to a 3.6-liter naturally aspirated V6 for a towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds. The engine cranks out 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet (360 Nm) of torque.
