This November, at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto show, BMW will be showing off the latest incarnation of its high-performance SUVs, the X5 M and X6 M, together with their Competition variants. Scheduled for market launch in 2020, the four new models come with more punch and are quicker than ever before.
At the heart of both the X5 and the X6 sits a reworked 4.4-liter V8 engine mated to an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and the xDrive all-wheel-drive system. With careful tuning, M managed to squeeze either 25 or 50 hp more than in the previous generations, depending on version, and thus raising the bar to never-before reached levels.

The BMW X5 M has a total power output of 600 hp and 750 Nm of torque. In the Competition guise, the car develops even more power, 625 hp, and the same amount of torque.

The same figures have been reached in the X6 M and X6 M Competition, respectively, but the performance figures are slightly different.

Both Competition models are 0.4 seconds faster than their predecessors when going from full stop to 62 mph. They can now do that in 3.9 (X5 M Competition) and 3.8 seconds (X6 M Competition).

To handle the increased performances of the engine, the two SUVs also got their body structure and suspension mountings upgraded.

Visually, all four models wear the distinctive touch of the M nameplate. Changes include large air intakes, kidney grille with double bars, M gills, rear apron with diffuser elements, and exhaust system with two sets of twin tailpipes.

On the interior the high-performance feel is ensured by the use of the Mspecific cockpit design, with special readouts on the head-up display, M multifunction seats and the extensive use of leather.

BMW did not say for now how much it will charge for any of the models. Full details on the modifications made can be found in the document attached below.
