Tired of seeing tiny, under-developed kidney grilles on the latest-generation BMWs? Don't worry, the upcoming 2021 BMW M3 G80 will have you covered, and then some.
Somewhat previewed by the Concept 4 at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, the new gigantic kidney grille will apparently adorn the new M3 and probably the M4 as well.
Squint your eyes while looking at any recent frontal spy image of the M3 G80 and then at the Concept 4 and you'll realize that the elongated “nostrils” are there on both cars. This why our Andrei Nedelea created a rather believable rendering of the upcoming model, accompanied by a full preview as well.
Some people will love it, some will definitely won't, but what is certain is that the new BMW sports sedan will act as a divider of fans a lot more than any of its more mellow-looking predecessors.
Looking past the controversial front-end, the car's side looks will definitely benefit from the much-widened wheel-arches, which should hide an increased track and a new style of BMW wheels.
A new pair of vents on the front fenders should help in both function and the design department, helping extract pressure from underneath the wheel-arches and looking bad-ass in the process.
No controversial material on the rear, with BMW's design department apparently sobering up when they got to the back. There are bound to be four exhaust tips hugging a rear diffuser and a lip spoiler adorning the trunk. There's a chance that the OLED taillights are making a comeback as well.
The interior should be somewhat identical to the regular sedan, except for much sportier seats, a new steering wheel and a couple of extra buttons.
Purists that weren't let down by the busy front end will probably be disappointed by the addition of all-wheel-drive on the G80-generation M3. Keep in mind that this is no regular AWD system though, but one derived from the F90 M5, which can send the power exclusively to the rear wheels when certain options are activated.
A so-called “Pure” version, with RWD, a manual transmission and slightly less power will be available as well.
Since the model wasn't unveiled at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, like some people were expecting, we shouldn't be more than a few months away from the official unveiling of the new M3 as an MY2021.
