2021 BMW 5 Series LCI Rendered, Comes With Huge Grille
The 5 Series is perhaps the coolest BMW of all time. It's a great sedan, has almost always looked sporty and provided us with the iconic M models. But every three or four years, the Germans like to do what's called an "LCI" which is a refresh to keep things spicy.
Folks, if you don't know what LCI stands for, you're probably more of a Tesla guy. This thing BMW has coined stands for Life Cycle Impulse and usually means some cool mechanical or tech improvements.

The current 5er doesn't feel old, but BMW designers have gotten it into their heads that all the grilles need to be bigger. It started with the X7, followed by the 7 Series facelift and now the Concept 4 with its crazy long kidneys. Maybe they ate too much salt and developed inflammation.

Anyway, we've spotted the updated 5 Series quite a few times already, which allowed the Russian rendering specialists at Kolesa to get a good look. Not that you could miss the giant new grilles, but there's more stuff going on here.

Fans of this model will also be able to spot what they've done to the headlights and taillights. The bumper has also been revised subtly, but the images depict the more engaging M Sport or M Performance versions with larger front intakes and a bit of mascara around the lower bumpers.

But the big headline-grabber for this update is not the M550i, which by the way is already receiving power boosts to 530 HP. No, it's the 545e plug-in hybrid, which will be updated to about 380 horsepower and offer more pure-electric autonomy.

We'll have to wait a bit longer to see what BMW does to the interior, but it's likely just minor tweaks to the infotainment and trim.
