The Audi RS7 arrived in America more than seven years ago, putting sports car performance in a body that made the S8 look dull. But everybody knew about the RS6, a performance wagon that paved the way and allowed all this to happen. Now that both models are offered Stateside, people might want to know what's the difference between the two in terms of performance.
This is a drag race that's going to repeat itself over and over again until these RS models are no more. While the two cars have exactly the same engine, that doesn't mean they'll go the quarter-mile strip equally fast. Critics might say that Audi has favorites and won't allow the customers who pay the most to be disappointed.
In the last few months, we have seen other drag races that suggested the RS7 is faster while both are slower than their BMW or Mercedes counterparts. However, the RS6 Avant that Carwow has got is painted in something that looks like British Racing Green, and that's worth at least 20 horsepower extra.
Of course, the official numbers don't support that, as the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 is rated at 592 horsepower (600 PS) in both of them. The reviewer mentions that a 10 kg or 22 lb difference exists between the two, but that doesn't sound like much.
What happens in the actual drag race is that the driver of the RS6 launches a little bit better. Even with the GoPro footage being muddy, it's fun to see these heavy German cars pitching their noses upward as they try to put down the power. Moments later, the RS7 begins to catch up in a way that really does suggest it makes more power.
