The Ingolstadt-based automaker has been selling the European-specification Q5 Sportback and SQ5 Sportback for some months already, although the latter showed up on the Old Continent with rather prohibitive pricing and a diesel. Audi is more reasonable for the U.S.-market versions, with the Q5 Sportback kicking off at $47,800 and the feistier SQ5 Sportback going for at least $56,100.
Even adding the $1,095 “destination charge, sales taxes, title, options, and dealer charges” won’t get you anywhere close to the prices seen on the European market, so we have a feeling Audi’s U.S. fans are getting the better deal from the company’s newly announced two new variants.
Audi already claims the regular Q5 line is a best-seller, so adding the two new versions at aggressive pricing won’t harm, quite the contrary. The 2021 Q5 Sportback and SQ5 Sportback are here with all the goodies of the refreshed Q5 series and will be adding on top of that some “expressive coupe design to an SUV with a high level of everyday usability.”
The company says the Q5 Sportback and SQ5 Sportback are inspired by the other stylish models in its range, mainly the A5 Sportback, A7, and fully electric e-tron Sportback. Besides the sloping roofline, there’s a host of additional elements to set it apart from the standard Q5 and SQ5, including a new 19-inch alloy wheel design, the S line exterior pack, a panoramic roof, or a pair of sports seats up front.
More so, all versions come with standard LED headlights which can be optionally upgraded to the Matrix LED standard, while the SQ5 Sportback even includes the futuristic OLED technology as part of the Prestige trim.
Speaking of grades, both Sportback models can be had in three versions – Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. Pricing for the Q5 Sportback thus comes in at $47,800, $51,000 and $56,500 depending on the trim, while the SQ Sportback can be had for $56,100, $59,500, and $64,700, respectively.
Space is a big concern with these coupe-SUVs, but Audi promises between 24.7 cubic feet (699 l) and 51.9 cubic feet (1,470 liters) of cargo capacity with the seats up or folded. The standard powertrain for the Q5 Sportback is a classic 2.0-liter TFSI with 261 horsepower. Meanwhile, the SQ5 packs a beefier 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 churning out 349 hp, which is enough for a sprint to 60 mph (96 kph) in 4.7 seconds.
