2021 Audi e-tron GT Spotted, $100,000 EV Getting Ready for Production

After the e-tron SUV, Audi is working on another bespoke electric car, the e-tron GT. You can see it either as the RS7 Sportback minus the V8 or the Audi version of the Porsche Taycan. Either way, it's going to be expensive.

A couple of years back, it was said that the might of the German auto industry would come down and smash Tesla. But that hasn't happened yet. Instead, the market is being filled with cars that appear somewhat flawed but appeal to the brand enthusiasts who want to experience something new.

And while the e-tron GT can't claim to be the first of anything, unlike the Taycan, we still consider it a deeply sexy and possibly quite capable machine.

The concept made its debut in 2018 and even made an appearance in a Marvel blockbuster. It's pretty clear that Audi is confident enough to play this game with all the cards on the table.

This slinky four-door sedan also evolves from the new 800-volt electric car architecture that underpins the Porsche Taycan. One of the major advantages seems to be being able to deliver consistent performance in a drag race. A complex cooling method means its battery pack can handle repeated runs without compromising acceleration. The GT should also charge faster than previous e-tron models. However, we also look forward to seeing if they use the same gearbox arrangement.

As far as the specs are concerned, the e-tron GT concept will have two electric motors and 590 horsepower. The concept had a claimed 0 to 60 mph (97 kph) time of 3.5 seconds, 124 mph (200 kph) in 12 seconds, and a total range of about 250 miles (402 km). Now, that doesn't mean a less powerful model isn't coming further down the line, similar to the Taycan 4S.

We expect the e-tron GT to be revealed later this year. It's already gone through all the stages of testing, and we don't foresee any setbacks. Prices will start from around $100,000.
