Nobody does four-door coupes better than the Germans. In fact, few manufacturers even try, and the Audi A5 Sportback is a classic that's about to get even better.
Audi is currently working on a mid-life facelift for this more practical version of the A5, even though the model is still fairly new. The whole family is getting the same treatment as the recently revised A4 sedan/wagon, which is its sister car.
On the outside, that means a set of revised headlights and taillights, which those repetitive grooves cut into the LED signature. This feature was popularized by the bigger A7 and means you'll get a wave pattern when the lights blink or to greet you at startup. However, the feature may be optional or non-available in some markets.
Obviously, the bumpers have been changed as well, but the bit that really caught our eye is the fake double exhaust tips. On each side of the rear bumper, you see large rectangles, which actually don't lead anywhere but are meant to add sporty character.
Based on what we've seen on the A4, the A5 family won't get the fancy double screens of the bigger Audi models. These were just added to the Q7 facelift, but the SUV is way more popular and profitable for the company. Instead, you'll get a new 10-inch display on top of the dash that's touch-controlled instead of via a dial. Various connectivity features will also pop up.
The engine range should receive mild-hybrid technology, using a 12-volt setup for the 2-liter TDI and TFSI units and a 48-volt one for the expensive V6s. Will this target the RS5 as well? At this point, we can't tell. But Audi is probably going to focus on EV systems on its next four-door coupes, just like BMW is making the i4 right now.
