After years of concept cars, teasers and spy material, Toyota is finally set to introduce the fifth-generation Supra next month, with the sportscar set to debut at the Detroit Auto Show.
The MK V Supra has recently shown up on our radar again, thanks to an image of the whole front end leaking onto the web and (a separate occasion) thanks to its maker announcing that the first unit will be auctioned off for charity.
Well, while we're back on the topic, we've brought along a piece of footage showcasing the 2020 Toyota Supra doing its thing on the Nurburgring.
The video portraying the hardcore prototype testing has been captured earlier this year and it shows the rear-wheel-drive machine drifting on the Green Hell. And we're not referring to the occasional tail-out moment. Oh, no. The engineer behind the wheel delivers delicious slip angles, as you'll get to see in the clip at the bottom of the page.
The recent release of the new BMW Z4 has shown us what to expect from the upcoming Supra, since the two are closely related.
For instance, the main powerplant of the Toyota Supra will be a Bavarian 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six, which should deliver340 hp. Nevertheless, there will also be an entry-level model animated by a BMW 2.0-liter turbocharged four-banger with either 197 or 258 hp on tap.
Nevertheless, we could also see Toyota introducing a hybrid range-topper later in the vehicle's life cycle.
If you happen to be in a hurry and wish to head straight to the Supra action, you should know this awaits you at the 4:39 point of the video. However, the rest of the clip is also packed with prototype testing action, albeit with some of the scenes involving machines that have already been revealed, such as the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ.
