If we were to keep an eye on the type of camos used by carmakers to hide their latest vehicles, then the creativity award would certainly go to Skoda. The Czech carmaker is about to release the fourth generation of one of its most successful models, the Octavia, and it sure made an effort to make it look good without revealing anything essential.
The flaming orange-yellow livery is here in these official photos to hide both the new dimensions and the desgin changes made to the new generation. And it does a good job, despite the carmaker ruining the mystery by releasing nearly all of the details about the new car.
First off, dimensions. Just like most other cars out there these days, the new Octavia has grown in size. It is now 22 mm longer than its predecessor (4,689 mm total) and 15 mm wider (1,829 mm), while riding on a 2,686 mm wheelbase.
The increase is size means there more space in the trunk – the total space for groceries is now 640 liters in the Combi and 600 liters in the hatchback, and also for the knees of the people in the back – 78 mm.
On the outside, Skoda has confirmed the new Octavia will boast a new front apron and new headlights, that for the first time in the carmaker’s lineup are full LED Matrix.
The interior has been completely revamped as well, with the model showing a new design for the center console, door trims and dashboard, as well as a new steering wheel that allows control over 14 of the car’s functions.
The new Octavia will be the first Skoda to use a head-up display, accompanying the 10-inch instrument panel and the 10-inch infotainment screen.
The usual complement of TDI and TSI engines will be on the table for the new generation, linked to 7-speed DGS gearboxes. The powertrain range will also include mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid options. As usual for a VAG group car, CNG-powered variants are also being offered.
Officially, the new Octavia will be shown without the camo on November 11, but you can feast on all the details for the new model in the lengthy press release attached below.
