We've always thought that the Skoda badge was an interesting thing, right up there with Volvo. An arrow with wings - what's not to love? However, the 2020 Karoq and Kodiaq have gotten rid of this in favor of "Skoda" written all over the trunk lid.
This follows the lead set by all-new models launched in the past year, namely the Scala hatchback and Kamiq baby crossover. However, the updated Superb models do the same thing. Unless we're mistaken, that just leaves the Fabia and Octavia, but those can't change until the new generations arrive.

In theory, the new setup has a couple of advantages. For starters, people who don't know about cars don't need to ask "what's that thing?" because the brand is readable from a mile away. Secondly, chromed lettering is designed to look classy and slightly retro.

Other small updates have also been made to both these MQB-based crossovers. They are now available (option) with Side Assist. The system replaces the old Blind Spot Detect system, boosting range from 20 to 70 meters thanks to a rear-facing radar system.

The system works while accelerating at speeds of 15 km/h or more and down to a speed of 10 km/h while braking. Rear Traffic Alert is an integral part of Side Assist too. It warns the driver about objects moving behind the vehicle when reversing. Also, the light that pops up when something is in your blind spot has been moved from inside the mirror glass to a large bulb on the inside of the housing. Unless we're mistaken, it's a Passat feature.

The Dynamic Chassis Control (adaptive dampers) can now be optioned on models with front-wheel-drive. These are more popular than AWD, but missed out on the extra comfort feature. A new KESSY system has also been introduced to minimize the risk of theft. If the key sits for 15 minutes, it will stop sending a signal. So signal boosters can't be used to remotely open the car.

Lastly, a new set of alloy wheels is available for the 2020 Kodiaq. They measure 20-inches in diameter, are 255mm wide and only available on Sportline, RS and L&K models.
