FR is SEAT for sporty, and the Tarraco mid-size crossover utility vehicle is now available in this specification. Better still, a plug-in hybrid option has been introduced with 50-plus kilometers (more than 31 miles) of electric range from an 85-kWh electric motor.
The PHEV is coupled to a 110-kW internal combustion engine, a four-cylinder turbo. Total output is 245 PS, translating to 242 horsepower. The most potent Tarraco in the lineup further features 13-kWh of capacity from an underfloor battery, reducing tailpipe emissions to zero. Most importantly, however, the WLTP test cycle promises fewer than 50 grams of CO2 emissions per kilometer according to the Spanish automaker.

Capable of 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.4 seconds and a top speed of 217 km/h (135 mph), the Tarraco PHEV will be available to order next year alongside the Tarraco FR trim level. “Distinction and sportiness” is how the latter is described, sporting a functional coast-to-coast light, 19-inch alloys as standard, and 20-inch machined wheels as an optional extra.

The FR emphasizes dynamism through the grille’s design and exterior badging as well, and if you so wish, SEAT can paint the sporty crossover in a new color for the Tarraco – Fura Grey. Options introduced for 2020 include trailer assist, a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation as well as electric sport bucket seats with memory for the driver’s side.

369,500 vehicles were sold by the Spanish automaker in the first seven months of 2019, translating to a new record for SEAT. The Tarraco is key to this commercial success, increasing the company’s global presence.

“The Tarraco plug-in hybrid perfectly illustrates our move towards a more sustainable mobility, yet maintaining the dynamism and fun-to-drive, typical of any SEAT,” declared head honcho Luca de Meo. “The Tarraco will be one of the few options with a plug-in hybrid powertrain on the large SUV segment, and we believe that it has great potential.”
