2020 Renault Koleos Adds More Refinement, AdBlue Turbo Diesels

The Koleos wasn’t a big seller for Renault when the first generation was still around, but the second coming of the mid-size crossover changed things for the better. As a platform brother to the Nissan X-Trail (a.k.a. Rogue), it also shouldn’t come as a surprise that some parts are sourced from Japan.

Over in the United Kingdom, both the Blue dCi 150 and Blue dCi 190 are connected to what Renault calls Auto X-Tronic CVT. The continuously variable transmission is manufactured by JATCO, and reliability is the biggest problem of this gearbox. On the upside, D-Step Logic Control can hold a constant gear ratio like a step-gear automatic for a more natural overall feeling.

Pricing for the Koleos in the UK starts at £28,195 on-the-road, translating to one of the more expensive Renault models on sale today. Customer deliveries in this part of the world are scheduled to commence in October 2019 for the 2020 model year, and both engine options come with an AdBlue tank as well.

Maximum torque is delivered at 1,750 rpm, and customers are treated to either 340 or 380 Nm. The larger of the two engines is a 2.0-liter, and Renault treats this powerplant to All Mode 4x4-i as standard even though the naming could be a bit confusing. Nevertheless, the engineers didn’t forget to offer a lock button for off-road driving at speeds of up to 40 km/h (25 miles per hour).

The Iconic dCi 150 2WD Auto X-Tronic is the starting point of the range, and it’s also the most fuel-efficient model of the lot thanks to CO2 emissions of 143 grams per kilometer. At the other end of the spectrum, the GT Line dCi 190 4WD Auto X-Tronic makes do with 150 grams per every kilometer driven.

Top speed is rated at 118 and 123 miles per hour, respectively, while acceleration to 62 miles per hour takes either 11.8 or 10.1 seconds. For a vehicle this heavy and boxy, you couldn’t ask more from the 2020 Renault Koleos.
