This is the all-new 2020 Range Rover Evoque, and before we talk about the platform or the engines, let's just take a moment to enjoy the design. Wow, good job Land Rover!
The old Evoque was an instant hit, with everybody calling it a "production concept car." We always knew that the brand new generation was going to be styled after the Velar, and we're pleased to announce this hasn't negatively impacted its character.

Even though some of the features are nearly identical to the Velar, such as both sets of lights, there's no mistaking this for anything other than an Evoque. We think this has something to do with the short greenhouse and the chunky shoulders. They somehow managed to make it more streamlined too, and in our eyes, it's easily the best-looking model in the segment, topping the Volvo XC40 and Audi Q3.

The Evoque is a good example of packaging. The new model is the same size as the old one, yet thanks to the Premium Transverse Architecture, it offers more room for passengers and up to 610 liters of cargo space. Land Rover also claims that the body is 13% stiffer.

So what about the engines? Well, the highlight is a 48-volt mild hybrid producing 300 horsepower and capable of recuperating energy from deceleration. LR says it will offer CO2 emissions as low as 149 g/km and fuel economy from 50.4 mph, which is frankly not that mind-blowing. The rest of the range is made up of the D150, D190, and D240, all using a 2-liter Ingenium diesel engine with a 9-speed automatic gearbox, though the base model is available with a manual and FWD, just like before. Don't be surprised when they hit you with a PHEV as well.

At launch, the American model will have a 2-liter turbo with 246-hp, though we expect both a performance model and a de-tuned one later on.

The interior is sending off Velar vibes as well. It features the same dual screens, one of which swivels. It's also the only Land Rover with an eco-conscience, as up to 72.8 pounds (33 kilograms) of natural and recycled materials have been used. So in place of leather, you can have your upholstery derived from wool or eucalyptus.
