2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Gets 1,000 Miles on a Tank

The pickup truck to cap all pickup trucks: this is the new Ram 1500, one of the most powerful and capable vehicles in its class, and really not the gas guzzler you would expect.

On Monday, October 7, FCA announced the fuel consumption figures for the 1500, and they’re not half bad. As per the carmaker, the 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel in 4x2 configuration achieves 32 mpg, while its 4x4 sibling scores 29 mpg.

That means with just one fill-up one of these trucks you could cover a distance of over 1,000 miles, a number that is according to FCA “the highest among all pickup trucks.”

The truck achieves this thanks to the new 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiesel engine fitted under the hood. This is a unit that does not only help the truck achieve the above fuel economy figures, but also brings unique and extremely potent capabilities.

The unit develops 260 horsepower and up to 480 lb-ft of torque, which in itself is the highest number for a half-ton diesel on the market. Also, the 12,560 pounds of towing capacity makes this truck the king of its segment.

“The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel offers the best torque and towing among all half-ton diesel trucks,” said in a statement Reid Bigland, Head of Ram Brand.

“Now with a 10-year track record, the Ram brand has emerged as a truck powertrain technology leader. The all-new EcoDiesel engine and Ram 1500 eTorque mild-hybrid powertrains deliver outstanding fuel efficiency alternatives for our Ram 1500 customers.”

In all, there are 8 Ram 1500 variants, powered by either the above V6 or the more potent 5.7-liter HEMI V8. Fuel consumption for the range varies from 26 mpg combined on the EcoDiesel 4x2 to 17 mpg for the eTorque 4x4 with the HEMI engine.

The 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel starts at $36,890 for the Tradesman Quad Cab 2WD, not including the $1,695 destination charge. Full details on the truck's fuel economy figures can be found in the document attached below.
