Ten less horsepower and 50 Nm down on the Audi RS4 Avant. That’s how Porsche treats the 2.9-liter V6 in the 2020 Macan Turbo, which goes to show that the Volkswagen Group works in predictable ways.
Even though it musters “only” 440 PS, that’s still more output than the preceding engine with 20 percent less displacement. Opt for the Sport Chrono Package, and you’ll be capable of accelerating the Macan Turbo to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.3 seconds. Top speed? 270 km/h without the package or 274 km/h (170 mph) with it according to the German automaker from Stuttgart.

Porsche Surface Coated Brakes (PSCB) further optimize the driving characteristics of the luxurious crossover, and on the visual front, the specific apron up front and fixed roof spoiler with a double-wing design bring the point home. Adaptive sports seats with 18-way adjustments, BOSE Surround Sound audio, the Alcantara headliner, and brushed aluminum trim makes the interior a pleasant and comfortable place to be in when on the long haul.

The 10.9-inch touchscreen running Porsche Communication Management is “fully networked as standard,” featuring online navigation with real-time traffic information thanks to an LTE module with an integrated SIM card and a slot for an external SIM. Wi-Fi connectivity, a hotspot feature, and Porsche Connect services are a few other highlights for tech-savvy customers.

Now available to order in Germany from 91,922 euros including VAT, the Macan Turbo can be optioned with a heated windshield, adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assistant, an ionizer to improve the air quality, and plenty more. The GT sports steering wheel familiar to 911 owners is available as an option.

20-inch wheels are featured from the get-go along with Sport Design side skirts and exterior mirrors finished in the body’s color. Even the sports exhaust is fitted as standard, recognizable by the quad-pipe arrangement and brushed silver finish.

Because the Macan is five years old in 2019 for the 2020 model year, Porsche is developing a successor on a different platform altogether. The PPE – short for Premium Platform Electric – will help the Macan switch from internal combustion to an all-electric powertrain. The Porsche plant in Leipzig is currently building a new body shop to support PPE-based vehicle production, translating to a €600 million investment.
