Porsche has just dropped a design teaser for the 992 incarnation of the 911 on Facebook. The problem is that the short clip unsurprisingly does a great job at hiding things in plain sight. However, us Porshephiles seeking to feast our eyes on the styling cues of the 8th generation have no reason to fret. And that's because Zuffenhausen has been testing naked prototype all over the world.
The 2020 Porsche 911 test cars have obviously been spotted by enthusiasts and we've added a few of the results at the bottom of the page. Note that we're talking about the Carrera (S) version here and you can check out its grown-up design in multiple colors.
Since the new Neunelfer is expected to make its debut later this month, at the Los Angeles Motor Show, all these sightings shouldn't come as a surprise.
The German engineers are also testing the 2020 Porsche 911 Turbo and the 2020 Porsche 911 GT3, with the specials having been spied wearing their production bodies.
The Carrera models will be animated by retouched versions of the turbocharged 3.0-liter motors that debuted on the 991.2 generation. As for the transmission, the list of PDK updates will be led by the addition of a ratio, for a total of 8 forward gears. And yes, a manual will still be offered.
Fortunately, the GT3 will maintain two of its top assets, namely the naturally aspirated motor and the optional stick shift, with this having been confirmed by multiple prototypes.
As for the Turbo, this is expected to retire its current TT 3.8-liter boxer in favor of an all-new unit.
Zuffenhausen has also stated that the 992 911 will be hybridized, but we might have to wait for the .2 facelift to meet the gas-electric version(s). Plug-in optimists expect the rear-engined machine to follow the examples set by the Panamera and the Cayenne, offering 4 E-Hybrid and a Turbo S E-Hybrid versions.
