2020 Porsche 911 Has a Wet Driving Mode, Naked Prototype Reveals

Earlier this week, a naked 2020 Porsche 911 prototype once again showcased the design of the next-generation model and while it wasn't the first uncovered test car, its red hue allowed us to see the styling in a different light. We called the 992 generation's look "all grown up" and it seems the label can also be extended to the driving experience. At least this is what we make of the fact that the Neunelfer now packs a "Wet" driving mode.

The said has been revealed by yet another prototype sighting. This time around, a group of 2020 models lets us check out the rear-engined coupe in Silver, Blue and Yellow (this one is nicely color coded with brake calipers, which signal the presence of carbon-ceramic brakes).

However, the trick above comes from the interior spyshot (check out the central infotainment screen, for instance). The new, let's-keep-it-clean driving mode joins the usual Normal/Sport/Sport Plus and it even gets a dedicated button on the central dash - the German carmaker may have come with a cleaner layout, but its passion for bespoke controls remains and we couldn't agree more.

Once again, we notice the partially digital dash, with the traditional center-mounted analog tacho being flanked by a pair of screens.

We can also notice the tiny controller for the PDK tranny (a new generation is expected), but the go-fast credentials are still here thanks to the steering wheel-mounted shift paddles. Interestingly, the new wheel seems to have skipped the driving mode rotary controller (call it Sport Response, if you might), so perhaps this has to do with the said dedicated buttons (there are more of them).

The front and rear light clusters still pack a bit of camo, but these spyshots zoom in on the headlights.

2018 marks Porsche's 70th anniversary, so we're looking at a celebration on wheels here. The 992 generation of the Neunelfer will make its debut by the end of the year, with the Paris Motor Show being the expected venue for the introduction of the icon.
