Underpinned by an all-new platform, the all-new 208 and e-208 are now available to order in the United Kingdom. Peugeot believes the subcompact hatchback will be a commercial success even though the Brits continue to embrace the crossover like there’s no tomorrow, but is that the case?
£16,250 might seem like a lot at first for the entry-level trim, but the 208 Active does come with a lot of standard equipment. Allure, GT Line, and GT specifications are also available, and the e-208 can be ordered from £25,050 including the government grand for plug-in vehicles.
On personal finance lease, the e-208 in Active flavor starts at £289 per month for a 48-month contract with an initial rental of £5,450 and a final rental of £8,978. The 208 with internal combustion is even better value thanks to £229 per month, £700 in the first place, and £6,138 for the rest.
Peugeot also makes a case for company cars and fleet users thanks to benefit-in-kind rates. Cutting down the tax bill while saving fuel costs is a particularly enticing proposition for small and medium businesses. If you were wondering, the e-208 features 136 horsepower from a front-mounted electric motor and a 50-kWh battery for an estimated range of 211 miles.
The internal combustion crowd is treated to the 1.2-liter PureTech, connected to a five-speed manual, six-speed manual, or eight-speed automatic transmission. Two outputs are offered, namely 74 and 100 horsepower. Key features of the five-door hatchback in Active specification include LED daytime running lights, rear parking sensors, manual air conditioning, a 7.0-inch capacitive color touchscreen, and 16-inch alloy wheels.
At the other end of the spectrum, the e-208 GT features a 10-inch infotainment system, Connected 3D Navigation, fully automated Parking Assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop & go, as well as Lane Positioning Assist. It’s a small car, alright, but the Frenchie also packs a lot of tech!
The second generation of the 208 shares the CMP vehicle architecture with DS Automobiles and Opel in the DS 3 Crossback and Corsa. Coincidence or not, both of them are also available with the same electric option as the Peugeot.
