2020 Mid-Engined Corvette Prototype Shows Flat-Top Steering Wheel on Nurburgring

With the C8 Corvette having reached the Nurburgring this month, we've had plenty of opportunities to show you the mid-engined supercar in action. And here we are, back on the topic, as we want to talk about the interior.

The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette is far from its final development stage and, at this point, the cabin is still fully covered. However, the spyshot above (via Bridge To Gantry) allows us to check out the steering wheel of the supercar, with its flat top - we assume the wheel also comes with a flat bottom, which means the driver leg clearance is greater. For instance, this is the kind of wheel we can find on the new Ford GT.

Sure, we can also see the seats here, but with test cars often using specific units, we can't entirely trust this photo (after all, we must even take the steering wheel with a grain of salt).

As for the exterior of the mid-engined Corvette, the heavy camouflage and the provisional elements, such as the headlights and taillights, mean we can't quite judge the styling - despite this, certain aficionados have jumped to the conclusion that the front end resembles that of the second-generation NSX.

Regardless, we were recently able to get a better look at the 2020 'Vette thanks to a rendering based on the spy material.

When it comes to the hardware that occupies the middle section of the machine, the rumor mill talks about a three-unit range.

The base model would pack a naturally aspirated V8, possibly an evolution of the 6.2-liter mill that currently powers the C7 Corvette Stingray and Chevrolet Camaro SS.

A twin-turbo V8 is also rumored, even though this won't be 4.2-liter unit Cadillac recently introduced. Instead, the Chevrolet is expected to come up with a 5.5-liter motor. Forum chat also mentions a plug-in hybrid incarnation of the mid-engined Corvette, which would sit at the top of the range.

Until we get our hands on extra info, you can listen to a C8 Corvette prototype blitzing the Green Hell in the piece of spy footage below.
