2020 Mercedes S-Class Shows First Interior Glimpses: Curved Screens?

The 2020 S-Class is probably the most important prototype in Germany right now. Sure, there's the GLE and X7, but they all have an amalgam of technology that's already available today.

We've already talked about some of the big design changes we expect, like the flush-fitting door handles and potential interior changes. While the veil of mystery still hangs over the interior, we can at least show a camouflaged screenshot of the dash.

It looks like Mercedes designers have moved the big panoramic screen a bit lower and curved it, a bit like the high-end TVs. It's a predictable move, but it's still something new for the industry. In fact, I don't think I've seen this feature on too many concepts.

The steering wheel is still the one in the current model, which is to be expected from such an early prototype. Mercedes probably has about two years of testing left to do on this flagship sedan.

The W222 is already a smooth-looking sculpture on wheels, but its replacement should be even sleeker. The latest Mercedes design language has been described as a pebble washed up on the beach. That's why you don't see pronounced profile lines.

Around the rear, they've switched to long, narrow taillights that are cut in half by the trunk opening. The roof also forms a more continuous shape with the rear windshield, a bit like Lexus did with the LS. A longer, wider and lower body also helps with the elegance aspect.

Engine-wise, The W223 will likely rely a lot more on the inline-6 architecture which features an electric motor sandwiched between it and the 9-speed gearbox. Of course, Mercedes wouldn't be the same without its V8 engines, but 2-liter units should also be available. Honestly, it's a little early to talk about spec with this mystery car.
