Mercedes is preparing small changes to the design of its E-Class family of cars. Our latest batch of spyshots previews these, taken as several different prototypes were undergoing testing in Germany.
Just like before, when the 2020 E-Class was just filmed, we only have prototypes for the wagon model and its All-Terrain derivative. This is puzzling because the sedan came out way before the others, so it should be the first to receive upgrades.

But if we know anything about Mercedes, it's that even though these cars look almost ready to debut, it could be another full year before this happens, leaving plenty of time for the W213 to take to European roads.

Mercedes facelifts are somewhat unpredictable. For example, the C-Class recently underwent only mild cosmetic upgrades, while the W212 generation (the previous E-Class) famously had one of the most expensive facelifts ever.

The new headlights are easy to spot. They have a new design that follows "sister models" of the E-Class. For example, the new LED brow is copied from the CLS-Class. And like the C-Class facelift, the Elegance trim level will be set apart from the rest with its beams split down the middle, like this.

New taillights are also coming out, but Mercedes doesn't want us to see them. Don't expect anything significant in that department.

The S213 E-Class T-Model already has a ridiculously large engine range, which starts with the 150 HP E 200 d and ends at the beast that is the E 63 S, with 612 HP and probably the best small V8 out there. Rumor has it that hybrids are being prioritized, but that's not what we have in these spyshots.

On the other hand, the E-Class All-Terrain has only three diesel engines. In some European markets, it's going to need a mild-hybrid 2.0-liter, even though it's not the most efficient setup with the 4Matic. But since this isn't a volume car, don't expect too much attention from the engineers.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
