At this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, German carmaker Mercedes-Benz introduced the MBUX system, the replacement for the COMAND and a revolution when it comes to in-car infotainment technologies.
For the next CES, which opens its doors in January, Mercedes knew it will have a hard time rising to 2018’s level of sophistication. So out comes the rabbit out of the hat.

The auto world has been betting on the unveiling of the second generation Mercedes-Benz CLA at the Geneva Motor Show in March, but the Germans surprised everyone on Monday with the announcement that the car will show for the first time at CES 2019.

The car is described by Mercedes as “the most emotional vehicle of its class,” and also “a highly intelligent automotive specimen,” thanks to the use of the MBUX we mentioned earlier.

No other details about the car were made public, but knowing we’re about to start 2019 with a bang is enough to forgive the Germans for their teasing.

Aside from the new CLA, the stars of Mercedes’ booth will be the EQC electric SUV and the out-of-this-world Vision Urbanetic line of autonomous vans.

The EQC, shown in the flesh for the first time at the Paris Motor Show in October, is the car that will spearhead the new EQ brand created by the Germans to include their future line of electric vehicles. A high degree of interest from visitors is to be expected, since this is the first time the car is shown on American soil.

As for the Urbanetic is one of those creations no one is likely ever to see take shape. Shown at the Hannover Motor Show in September, Urbanetic is, in fact, a modular autonomous platform capable of swapping bodies so that it can be either a people mover or a cargo hauler.
