In addition to what we expect to be the Leaf E-Plus, the CES 2019 will be host to the premiere of the second generation of the CLA-Class. As expected from the more elegant half-brother of the A-Class hatchback and sedan, the CLA features a swept-back roofline that will eat into the rear passengers’ headroom.
“See the CLA with new eyes” is what Mercedes-Benz wants us to do, though we did it numerous times already thanks to the carparazzi. Based on the MFA2 platform, the compact sedan with a coupe-like roofline is available with full-LED headlights and AMG exterior enhancements.

“But why the Consumer Electronics Show and not Detroit?” Good question, but the answer is as simple as it is daft. Mercedes-Benz likes to wax lyrical about MBUX on every occasion, the most advanced infotainment system ever offered by the three-pointed star.

It’s also important to highlight that MBUX was showcased at the CES one year ago, so that’s that as far as Mercedes-Benz’s decision is concerned. If you so wish, the CLA can be equipped with augmented reality for the satellite navigation system and the ability to understand indirect voice commands. There’s even something called “Energizing Coach,” featuring “individual fitness recommendations” according to the German automaker.

The CLA won’t be alone at the CES, with Mercedes-Benz confirming the EQC battery-electric crossover and the Vision URBANETIC mobility concept. On January 7th, Daimler Trucks will present “the company's next steps within the context of automated driving.”

Described as “a highly intelligent automotive specimen” and a “coupe” for that matter, the CLA will be available with a varied selection of four-cylinder engines and a dual-clutch transmission. The 45 should arrive not long after the regular engine options, packing 400 PS (395 horsepower) or thereabouts from 2.0 liters of displacement. There’s even talk of hybrid assistance (probably EQ Boost), but nothing has been confirmed concerning this matter at the time of writing.

In the United States, the CLA should go on sale for the 2020 model year. Europe, on the other hand, will receive the newcomer sometime during the summer of 2019.
