The recently launched McLaren GT, a car considered by the British carmaker the first true Grand Tourer in its lineup, has made its dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this week, driven by TV presenter Nicki Shield.
For its first rolling appearance in front of a live audience, the car drove up the Goodwood Hill no less than four times, with two other drivers taking the wheel after Shield: Le Mans winner Jonny Kane and GT racer Ollie Millroy.
Meant to create a class that is to occupy a space alongside the Sports, Super and Ultimate Series ranges, the GT is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that can crank out 620 ps of power and 630 Nm of torque.
The engine is linked to a 7-speed SSG transmission and can take the GT from naught to sixty-two in 3.2 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 326 kph (203 mph).
Longer than any other Sports or Super Series cars made by McLaren, the GT is quite a sight on the road, especially because it features front and rear overhangs that extend further that on other cars of the same brand.
On the inside, Nappa leather trim is offered as standard, but there’s also the bling option of having the car draped in cashmere. And that’s a first for any car anywhere.
On the GT McLaren introduced a new infotainment system that relies on a 12.3-inch TFT screen. It features HERE navigation, real-time traffic information, Bluetooth, media streaming, and voice activation. The sound system is of Bowers & Wilkins design and uses 12 speakers.
A car of this caliber does not come cheap. The GT is already available for order, and is priced from £163,000 in the UK.
At Goodwood, McLaren’s full lineup of cars also includes the 720S Spider, 600LT Spider, P1, Senna and its GTR incarnation.
