Starting next year, the Ghent plant the Swedes from Volvo operate in Belgium will begin rolling out Lynk & Co. branded vehicles. Owned by Geely, Lynk is planning to take over the market with Europe with cars built on the continent and what appears to be innovative ownership and operation solutions.
Among the cars to be sent Europe’s way is the 01 SUV, last shown in April at the Auto China 2018 show in Beijing. The car is a plug-in hybrid that uses Volvo’s Drive-E powertrain.
This week, the coupe version of the SUV was caught out in the open, testing under a heavy camouflage alongside the fully naked regular variant of the 01.
It’s really hard to tell what exactly the changes will be compared to the regular 01, but under the heavy black wrappings at the rear both the window and roof lines show in what segment of the market the model fits in. Some chagtes might take place at the front as well, judging by the camo there.
Although no official information is available at this point, most definitely the coupe will use the same powertrain as the regular SUV, one that would give it a range of over 50 km (31 miles) when operating in electric mode.
Pairing the electric drive with the internal combustion unit is set to give the model a fuel consumption level of about 1.7 liters / 100 km (138 mpg).
Like all Lynk cars, this one will benefit from a limited number of options available for it. This is not because Lynk didn't bother to think of any, but because this is the Chinese business model for this brand: instead of trim levels and optional extras, a simple selection of fully equipped, one price collections.
All models will be connected and will bring forth a unique concept regarding ownership: the cars will be used on a buy-or-subscribe basis. Details on this are yet to be announced.
When ready to roll out on the market, Lynk cars will at first be aimed at key European cities like Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, and London.
