2020 Lincoln Aviator Ad Starring Matthew McConaughey Features Colorful Drifts

If you thought this ad for the Lincoln Aviator includes a few drifts from the mid-size SUV, you’d be wrong. Matthew McConaughey looks as bored as ever driving the hybridized luxobarge, and the colorful drifts come courtesy of a few modified sedans with rear-wheel drive.

The editing and colorful smoke do create an interesting atmosphere for a car commercial, more so if you remember that Lincoln isn’t the most exciting brand out there. The all-new Aviator also has a lot going for it, and the plug-in hybrid powertrain has a lot going for it.

3.0 liters of EcoBoost V6 take care of internal combustion, and an electric motor assists the mid-size utility vehicle whenever needed. In terms of output, you’re looking at up to 494 horsepower and 630 pound-feet of torque, plenty enough to make the F-150 Raptor blush. Lincoln’s website explains that the ratings can be achieved on premium gasoline.

The people who made the script are aware that the Aviator Hybrid is the most powerful Lincoln currently in production, which is why McConaughey says something interesting in the ad. “Performance comes in lots of flavors,” and we agree with that claim if we were to put the Mazda MX-5 Miata next to the Nissan GT-R and Ferrari SF90 Stradale.

A non-hybrid powertrain is also available as standard in the Aviator, packing a respectable 400 horsepower and matching pound-feet of torque. Be it rear- or all-wheel-drive, the Lincoln features a 10-speed automatic transmission we know and love from the Mustang and F-150. Shall we talk about the pricing too? Then prepare $51,100 excluding destination charge for the more luxurious brother of the Ford Explorer.

In addition to the base model, customers are offered plenty of choices in terms of trim levels. The Reserve, Grand Touring, Black Label, and Black Label Grand Touring complete the list, along with a sticker that reads $87,800 for the electrified Black Label Grand Touring. Woo wee, that’s expensive!

What’s even more surprising is that the Mustang in Shelby GT500 flavor can be taken to $107,000 or thereabouts. This goes to show that the Ford Motor Company is slowly but steadily going upmarket, and that’s exactly where the customers are in this day and age.
