Before the 90 and 130 enter production, the 110 will have to suffice if you’re in the market for the all-new Defender. The reimagined classic now comes with a unibody architecture, and prospective customers are treated to three trim levels in the United States, United Kingdom, and Germany.
The list starts with the Defender 110, the base model that costs $49,900 excluding destination charge, £45,240 for the Brits, and €55,600 in most of Continental Europe. Standard equipment is plentiful even though the steel wheels are strange at this price point when you think about it.

Four-wheel drive, a twin-speed transfer box with high- and low-range settings, electronically adjustable air suspension, Terrain Response, and eight-speed automatic transmission, electric power steering, cornering brake control, hill descent control and launch assist, LED headlamps and taillamps, all-season 18” tires, two-zone climate control, ebony fabric upholstery, 3D Surround Camera, 10-inch touchscreen infotainment, trailer stability assist, automatic emergency braking, and satellite navigation are all standard.

That’s only the tip of the iceberg, but detailing every single standard feature would make this story too long for everyone’s liking. Codenamed L663, the 2020 Defender is also available as the First Edition for the princely sum of $68,650 stateside, £58,860 in the United Kingdom, and €74,700 in the Old Continent. One of the most important additions over the entry-level trim is Terrain Response 2 along with configurable driving modes.

Land Rover also throws in “premium LED headlights with signature DRL” whatever that means, and the Defender 110 X sweetens the deal with… wait for it… fog lights. The range-topping model for the time being costs $80,900, £78,800, and €98,500 depending on where you live.

Just for the fun of it, we’ve chosen the Defender 110 X with the P400 engine to see how high we can go with the pricing. The Ingenium 3.0-liter plant is a hybridized inline-six turbo with close to 400 horsepower and approximately the same amount of torques, translating to 129 miles per hour when fitted with the 22-inch wheels. Zero to 60 mph comes in 6.1 seconds.

The Explorer Pack adds $4,285.55 to the tally in the United States (price does not include fitting), but then we’ve changed our mind in favor of the Adventure Pack for $2,844.08. The satin protective film for the paintwork is $3,800 while the most expensive wheels add $3,840 to the price. The 5+2 seats option costs $1,700, which is uncanny by all accounts, and the 60:40 split-folding option will set you back $400 plus $2,100 for the Vintage Tan and Ebony Windsor premium textile upholstery. And we’re not finished…

The Towing Pack, Comfort and Convenience Pack, and a lot more options plus accessories bring the price up to (make sure you’re seated before reading what's next) $121,070.78 in the United States. To the $80,900 base price, we’ve added $1,025 for delivery and almost $40,000 in optional extras to our Defender 110 X. Too much or too little, have your say below.
