As expected of Kia, the Soul EV is available to order as a First Edition for the time being. Priced at £37,295 excluding the plug-in car grant, the limited-run model comes with two-tone paintwork and the 64-kWh battery with up to 280 miles of range. 80 percent charge can be achieved in one hour and fifteen minutes, and both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard.
Slightly larger than the Hyundai Kona Electric, the Kia Soul EV is scheduled to arrive at British dealerships in the first quarter of 2020. For the first time ever, Kia took the decision to sell the Soul in Europe exclusively with electric propulsion. This focus on electrification is also shared by the Niro, which is available as a hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and as an electric vehicle.
Turning the focus back on the First Edition, the e-crossover also features a 10-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system with 640 watts on tap. The Type 2 charging inlet enables a full recharge in nine hours and 35 minutes, but the CCS Combo system is more like it. 50-kW DC Rapid Charging is possible, and a three-pin cable is provided as standard with the Soul EV.
The distinctive looks help the e-crossover stand out in the crowd, along with the LED headlights, LED fog lamps, and 17-inch alloy wheels with a five-spoke design. Moving on to the interior, the cockpit is more high-tech than ever thanks to UVO Connect telematics and the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with live traffic, parking availability, and charging locations.
A smartphone app that connects to the UVO Connect can store the last location of the vehicle, give a monthly summary of the vehicle’s usage, and alert the driver whenever the windshield washer fluid level is low. A head-up display complements the 7.0-inch OLED instrument cluster, and the driver is also treated to voice control for the most essential functions of the infotainment system.
Safety is another highlight of the Soul EV, featuring tire pressure monitoring, hill-start assist, rear-cross traffic alert, high beam assist, blind-spot detection, lane follow assist, lane keep assist, and forward collision-avoidance assistance. Only three exterior colors are available, namely Neptune Blue with a black roof, Clear White with a red roof, and Quartz Black with a red roof.
