2020 Karma Revero GT Costs $135,000: Is Anybody Going to Pay That?

If you're treating it like a bedroom poster, the Karma Revero GT may be the coolest electric car in while. It looks like something the perfect gentleman would drive and outshines the Tesla Model S you see everywhere. But as the manufacturer released pricing today, the reality of the GT is that it's overpriced.

The 2020 model differs from its predecessor in a few big ways, but we'll get to that later. First let's point out that it costs $135,000, which immediately sounds like a big number. The price bump is only $5,000 over the 2019 model, but a top-end Tesla Model S Performance is about 30k cheaper.

And is the Revero a better EV? It looks like Tesla's lead is impossible for any manufacturer to make up for. However, the Revero started life at roughly the same time as the Model S. You may have heard of it as the Fisker Karma, started by a man who designed the brilliant BMW Z4 and Aston Martin Vanquish.

In fact, Tesla even hired him to pen the Model S, and many believe he deliberately made it ugly to give his Karma a fighting chance. But the car had a number of issues and less than two years under the company went bust. Chinese investors picked up the pieces and eventually came up with this, the revised Revero GT.

One of the biggest changes is an all-new powertrain consisting of two electric motors that make 536 horsepower (400 kW0 and a claimed 1100 lb-ft (1491 Nm) of torque. She will do 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds and makes out at 125 mph (201km/h, limited).

Electricity comes from a 28 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which sounds small, of course. But the Revero GT has a range extender too, coming in the form of a BMW-sourced 1.5-liter, 3-cylinder turbo. Running only on batteries, its range is 80 miles, but with a full tank of gas, she'll do 360 miles.
