2020 Jeep Gladiator Weaponized by Mopar in Los Angeles

This year’s Los Angeles Auto Show is devoid of big premieres coming from America carmakers. Aside for Lincoln, and its lavish Aviator, there is little to talk about when it comes to this year’s achievements of the local auto industry.

Luckily, Jeep decided to pull the wraps off the new Gladiator pickup, saving face and preventing the L.A. event from making the Japanese and Europeans great again.

Fighting alone against exciting new Porsches and Mazdas, the Jeep Gladiator manages to show once again what built in America means. Especially when tooking at what Mopar can do when it gets its hands on one.

FCA’s high-performance division outdone itself with the Jeep Gladiator Rubicon it currently displays on the floor of the Los Angeles Convention Center. And this is only the tip of the iceberg, as Mopar claims it has in stock more than 200 parts and accessories for the new model.

That long list of accessories includes the tube doors seen on the model currently displayed, tonneau covers and a truck bed storage system. All will become available at about the same time the Gladiator launches in the second part of next year, making the car it one of the best choices on the market when it comes to off-roading,

“We’re giving owners what they need to enhance the most capable midsize truck ever, whether that’s versatile lifestyle accessories or Jeep Performance Parts for hard-core off-roaders,” promises Steve Beahm, Mopar’s head of parts and service.

Mopar will tamper with the Gladiator’s powertrain, which consists of either a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine (285 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque) or a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 (available from 2020). As standard, the Gladiator comes with a six-speed manual transmission.
