2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Races Porsche 911 Turbo S, the Gap Is Humongous

When pitting the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 against the Porsche 911 Turbo S in a straight-line battle, there's no reason to consider the apples and oranges nature of the comparison. After all, this is a scenario where the only thing that matters is which of the two manages to get ahead.

In fact, we've brought along a piece of footage that showcases such a velocity confrontation. And it's worth mentioning that both the German supercar and the muscle beast came to the fight in factory condition.

This means that the 991.2-generation Porsche's twin-turbo 3.8-liter boxer delivers 572 ponies, while the Ford's supercharged 5.2-liter V8 churns out 760 hp. However, we have to keep in mind that the traditional PDK edge of the Neunelfer is lost since the S550-generation GT500 also packs a dual-clutch transmission.

And since we can't ignore the scale footprint difference between the two, we'll mention that, despite packing AWD, the Porsche is still over 650 lbs (295 kilos) lighter than the 'Stang.

Speaking of all-paw hardware, the Turbo S couldn't make full use of this asset since the race involved a rolling start - this is the norm for street battles like the one we have here. Oh, and keep in mind not to engage in such adventures: please visit the drag strip when you feel it's time for racing.

Now, as mentioned by YouTuber Can I be Frank, who brought these shenanigans to us via the piece of footage below, both the muscle car and the rear-engined machine had passengers during the race. And you can head over to the 1:10 point of the video for the fight.

This sort of race also has an aural side, and, as far as this part of the confrontation is concerned, there can be only one winner, with it packing two extra cylinders compared to its opponent.

And yes, we, too, are eager to see the new 992 Porsche 911 Turbo S duking it out with the GT500...
