2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Races Modded Corvette Z06, Somebody Gets Trampled

While the C8 Corvette is all over the Internet these days, its C6 granddaddy constantly gets back under the spotlights. Case in point with the racing action we have here, which sees the senior 'Vette, in its Z06 form, duke it out with the Blue Oval model that gets all the attention these days, namely the S550-gen Mustang Shelby GT500.

We're dealing with a casual encounter between YouTubers who felt like their velocity toys could use a bit of leg stretching. And we'll start with the pony since it came to the battle in factory form. This means we're talking about a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 delivering 760 horsepower.

Nevertheless, the Chevy we have here had been taken to the gym for a serious workout before this confrontation. Keep in mind that the said generation of the Z06 was still a N/A monster, with its 7.0-liter V8 churning out 505 hp.

And while this example hasn't strayed from the atmospheric path, it has received full bolt-on goodies. The list includes the air intake and the exhaust headers, as well as an E85 setup. As such, the unit is now said to deliver just under 650 hp at the wheels, which makes for well over 700 horses at the crankshaft.

Now, each of the two vehicles packed an ace up its sleeve. For one, Ford's dual-clutch tranny can easily one-up the manual gearbox of the Chevy, and you can see the C6 losing a bit of ground each time the driver has to upshift.

Then again, the Z06 is around 1,000 lbs (450 kilos) lighter than the GT500, and that number says a lot.

The shenanigan saw the two engaging in multiple races using rolling starts. And while the action kicked off with an even takeoff, which you'll find at the 4:28 point of the clip below, one of the vehicles got a head start (6:14 timestamp). Let us remind you not to use such street fights as an example and head over to the drag strip when you feel like racing.
