2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Races Dodge Charger Hellcat Daytona, America Wins

Have you ever wondered how it feels to be a sedan taking part in a drag racing adventure that's naturally dominated by coupes? And when that four-door happens to be a Dodge Charger Hellcat Widebody Daytona, like the one we have here, the experience is certainly worthy of attention.

Dodge is only bringing 501 units of the Daytona to the world, thus marking the 50th anniversary of when the classic Charger Daytona racer, with its massive wing and nose cone, set a closed course top speed record by hitting 200 mph (322 kph). And, given the insane dealer markups many of these Hellcats have been sold with, we might not see all that many being put to hooning use like this one.

Then again, please keep in mind not to use such shenanigans as an example and head over to the drag strip when you feel competitive.

Now, the said night of racing, as seen from this Daytona, involved the Mopar machine duking it out with multiple beasts. As such, if you head over to the 3:50 point of the clip below, you'll see the sedan battling a modded incarnation of the Nissan GT-R, for instance.

Nevertheless, the most delicious battle seems to await you at the 4:99 timestamp. That's where you'll see the 717-pony Charger fighting the 760 hp beast that is the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.

For the record, the sedan tips the scales at 4,586 lbs (2,080 kg), which means the pony sits some 360 lbs (163 kg) lower. The Ford also has an advantage in the gearbox department, since it packs a dual-clutch tranny, while the Dodge comes with an eight-speed automatic.

PS: The soundtrack of the velocity battles is at least as delicious as the visual side of the adventure, so make sure to turn up the volume before heading over to that "play" button below.
