It's no secret that the S550 generation has allowed the Blue Oval to deliver a massive performance boost for the Mustang Shelby GT500. So, while the independent rear suspension means corners are no longer a threat, the dual-clutch tranny allows the beast to make the most out of its muscle. So, how about a straight-line battle that sees the 2020 GT500 fight a Corvette Z06?
The velocity adventure we're talking about involves a factory incarnation of the pony, right down to the tires (this example had around 1,000 miles on the odo at the time of the race). As such, we can talk about a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 churning out 760 ponies.
As for the Chevy, this is a C7 model, whose supercharged 6.2-liter V8 produces 650 hp in factory trim. However, you should know that this 2017 model, which packs the 8-speed automatic, had been gifted with a custom air intake and an X-pipe exhaust. And, to put the power down, the machine used Toyo R888R rubber, which is a popular choice among drag racers.
Nevertheless, as YouTuber Sinister Life mentions in the first part of the clip below, the 'Vette experienced ECU issues at the time when it raced the GT500, which didn't allow it to go past 140 mph (225 kph); it reportedly required a reflash from the dealer later on.
In fact, the two drivers duked it out on no fewer than seven occasions, all in an attempt to establish a clear winner. The adventure was interrupted by the check engine light showing up on the dash of the Corvette (you'll find this at the 4:40 timestamp).
The Shelby GT500 had to deal with some issues of its own, experiencing wheelspin during the 40 mph (64 kph) rolling starts, despite its driver having attempted to warm up the tires. Please keep in mind not to use such shenanigans as examples and visit the drag strip when your mood spells racing.
Now, if you happen to be in a rush, you'll find the racing action at the 1:55 point of the vid.
