2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Races 2021 Camaro ZL1, Somebody Gets Gapped

If you're looking for a big surprise, you won't find that in a race between a 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 and a 2021 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. So, what's the purpose of zooming in on such a shenanigan?

First of all, each straight-line battle is unique and, to those who live for muscle cars, every race of the sort can be interesting. And it's worth noting the one we have here sees both muscle cars competing in factory form, right down to the tires.

Sure, the 'Stang is more muscular (think: 760 vs 650 hp), while the weight advantage of the 'Maro is negligible. But, as we'll notice in the piece of footage below, aspects such as traction can have a serious influence on this type of adventure - even with this fight including rolling races that kick off at 40, 50 and 60 mph, spinning still occurs.

Speaking of the scale footprint, the driver of the Mustang weighs 220 lbs, while the one manhandling the Camaro sits at 150 lbs. In addition, there was a 240 lbs passenger who switched cars during the battle. Of course, we're asking you not to use this shenanigan as an example and hit the drag strip when you're feeling competitive, so things are kept on the safe side.

Secondly, this race shows the consequences of GM not introducing any serious updates for the 2021MY Camaro range, especially since the ZL1 top dog had already fallen behind its competitors.

Keep in mind that the rivals of the Chevy have both received attention-grabbing goodies for the 2021MY: the Ford Mustang Mach 1 has replaced the Shelby GT350, while the Dodge Challenger SRT has gained the Super Stock version and the Charger Hellcat can be had as a 797 hp Redeye monster.

Alas, the lack of serious novelties for the Camaro has only added fuel to the fire started by the rumors talking about the retirement of the badge in 2023.

PS: You can skip to the 5:26 point of the clip for the sprinting action, with the passenger in the GT500, while the battles that start at the 8:25 timestamp see the enthusiast jumping in the ZL1.
