Ford is moving full-speed ahead with development of the all-new Focus ST, a hot version of the Mk4 family hatchback. This prototype is already in an advanced stated of build, though nowhere near finished.
Even though Ford pulled the Focus cars from its U.S. lineup, and subsequently the ST as well, we're still interested to see what they've got cooking. Our latest spyshots show the car from all the usual exterior angles, but also manage to snap a few shots of the interior.

There, the ST is so similar to the regular model that you'd think the prototype is unfinished. But on closer inspection, we can see the ST-badged, flat-bottomed, perforated leather steering wheel. Also, the redesigned seats have ST logos on them as well.

That's the bare minimum you can expect from one of Ford's hot hatches. Of course, this is likely only the ST1 configuration, with higher-end ST3 models offering leather upholstery.

Not surprisingly, the shape of the body kit is much the same as the Focus ST-Line. Notable changes include a slightly longer trunk spoiler and mesh grille at the bottom of the front bumper. Also, the ride height has been visibly reduced.

While rumors continue to suggest the ST will change its displacement to either a 1.5 or a 2.3-liter, we're fans of the "don't fix it if it's not broken" line of thought. Our understanding is that the gasoline-powered Focus ST will have a 2.0-liter EcoBoost making around 280 HP while certain markets will also get a 2.0-liter diesel with 190 HP and an 8-speed auto option. By the way, our prototype has a six-speed manual and red-lines at 7,000rpm.

Our sources say that 18-inch wheels will be fitted as standard with 19s offered as an option. When it comes out at the end of next year, the new Focus ST should also receive adaptive dampers to better compete with the Hyundai i30 N and Golf GTI.
