Shown for the first time at the beginning of the year, the new Ford Focus ST is getting ready to make its British dynamic debut at this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Shown as the “most responsive and agile Focus ST” ever created, the new incarnation of the car will be taking on the West Sussex 1.16-mile (1.86 km) hill climb in the Manufacturers Batch category. On the sidelines, the Focus will be supported by another car in its breeed, the new Fiesta ST Ford Performance Edition.
The Focus ST will try to impress the crowds gathering at the event using its newest powertrains. For the range, the Blue Oval has envisioned two engine variants, one gasoline and one diesel, both meant to offer up to 12 percent more power and 17 percent more torque compared to the previous generation.
On the gasoline side of the fence, there’s the 2.3-liter EcoBoost good for 280 ps and 420 Nm of torque, the most powerful engine ever offered on a Focus ST. Diesel fuel is represented by a 2.0-liter EcoBlue, with its 190 ps and 400 Nm of torque.
Making sure power is used properly is one of two transmissions: a six-speed manual gearbox available with the rev-matching technology developed for the Mustang or a new seven-speed automatic that for the first time in the range comes with selectable drive modes: Slippery/Wet, Normal, Sport and Track.
“Selecting Track mode instantly introduces higher steering efforts for more feedback; tunes the throttle to be more aggressive; instructs the eLSD to deliver maximum traction; and gives drivers more leeway within the ESC system,” explains Leo Roeks, Ford Performance director.
“Drivers can have full confidence in the Focus ST’s ability to deliver on the track.”
The new Ford Focus ST goes on sale on the European market later this summer. Pricing is not yet available.
