The C8 is probably going to be the most dramatic debut of 2019, a mid-engined V8 that takes the supercar bull by the horns. It's one of the most hotly debated subjects, and we want to add to that with a little rendering from a good source.
The Koreans at KKS Studio have been fantastically accurate with their renderings, which are always based on advanced, detailed spyshots. They pretty much nailed the angular Hyundai Elantra and a bunch of other stuff. Corvettes are not their thing, but they should know a thing or two about Chevrolet design language since they make plenty of them over there.
The C8 kind of looks like a mix between a Ferrari 458 Italia and the previous two Corvette generations. It's not as wild and in-your-face as a Lamborghini, perhaps for fear that it would lose to die-hard customers.
The mid-engined Corvette has been rumored for more than a decade, to the point where people wondered if it's ever going to happen. But numerous sightings of production-ready cars suggest the debut could arrive as early as Detroit.
When looking at this car, we need to remember that we're probably dealing with the base model. You don't need extra-large air intakes and aggressive spoilers on the base $60,000 model with 460 horsepower. That's how much the standard 6.2-liter engine is supposed to make.
Of course, there are other engines being rumored, like a twin-turbocharged 4.2-liter, which looks increasingly unlikely, and a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 for the performance models. Maxed out, it's supposed to make 850 horsepower, which is downright crazy.
The few spy videos of the C8 testing at the Nurburgring track have suggested a twin-clutch auto is in use, re-sparking rumors of a 7-speed DCT from Tremec. This aspect is crucial to getting the formula perfect since the Camaro has pretty much nailed adaptive suspension and aero already. Of course, it's possible that Chevy will just use a tweaked version of its current 8-speed auto.
