For the past year and a half, Chevrolet has been a busy little bee, especially in the truck department. We’ve already seen two brand new Silverado variants in the past months, and now comes the third.
On the heels of the Silverado 1500 release, Chevy announced on Tuesday that the Heavy Duty variant of one of America’s favorite is nearly upon us. The truck will be unveiled in full this February, with sales set to start by the middle of the year.
This hasn’t stop Chevy to give truck lovers an early Christmas gift by releasing a few details and several photos that show the heavy hauler in its full glory.
Visually, there are several things that stand out, starting with the incredibly massive stance of the truck that makes even the big-sized wheels seem like toys. From the front, the Silverado HD looks like the stuff rookie drivers’ nightmares are made of, with the truck now sporting a lettered grille instead of Chevy’s iconic bowtie.
Chevy describes the HD as its most capable and advanced truck of its kind to date. It will be powered by a choice of two engines, the all-new gasoline paired to a six-speed transmission and the Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8 that develops 910 lb-ft of torque and works with a brand new Allison 10-speed transmission.
No power or performance information about the two engines was released.
Being bigger than the regular 1500, the HD comes at the interior with an additional 3 inches of legroom on crew cab models and a taller seating position.
There is no information on the load capabilities of the truck, Chevrolet saying only that there will be “significant increases in towing and payload capabilities.”
Chevrolet says that only the roof is shared with the 1500, all the other sheets of metal used on the HD being exclusive to this model.
