Truth be told, the Bugatti Chiron Sport, the handling-focused special that debuted during this year's Geneva Motor Show, didn't generate all that much interest. Then again, we can't say the same about the 2019 Bugatti Divo.

The Chiron-based racing special, which showed up at Pebble Beach, has seen the Internet boiling - here's the official introduction of the toy, as well as a walkaround covering both the exterior and the cabin.

And we can't help wonder if a true racing version of the Chiron/Divo will be built for the 2020 Le Mans hypercar class.

Following a loss of traction at the top of the endurance prototype racing classes (Toyota basically raced itself during this year's Le Mans), the officials have announced a new top tier for 2020.

The rules are far from clear at this point, but we do know that the future machines will pack similar tech to today's LMP1 prototypes, while coming with road car-like bodies.

The companies that have been engaged in the development of the upcoming series include Aston Martin, Ferrari, Ford, McLaren and Toyota. That's right, no Volkswagen Group marque here.

Of course, Bugatti isn't the only VW-owned brand that could enter the future series. Then again, with Porsche pursuing Formula E interests after its endurance racing exit and Lamborghini already involved in racing, the Molsheim automaker might be the one making the step.

After all, Bugatti's modern history books are crying for a connection to the brand's motorsport past. Sure, these EB machines sell extremely well even without such a nod (after all, all 40 examples of the 5 million Divo were sold out before the debut of the beast). But it would satisfying to see the French carmaker coming full circle.

Meanwhile, the video below showcases a Photoshop job that brings the Divo to the racetrack, courtesy of pixel master Laurent Schmidt.
