As BMW prepares to unveil the G06, the third generation of the sports activity coupé decided to show up before schedule. Similarly to the F15 generation of the X5, the F16 bows out without a mid-cycle refresh after five years of production in South Carolina.
Switching to the CLuster ARchitecture translates to better packaging for the X6, which looks less like an egg compared to the previous generation. What isn’t so hot about the newcomer is the kidney grille, which is slightly different in design but also bigger than the kidney grille on the X5.

What’s most surprising about the X6 in the leaked photographs is the grille-integrated illumination. We might be mistaken because of the low-resolution photographs, but aren’t those kidneys backlit by light-emitting diodes in the following teaser uploaded by BMW on Facebook?

Further back, the bumper features integrated exhaust finishers which hide the tailpipes as well as a tailgate spoiler and an ultra-slim lighting signature. The side vents at the extremities of the rear fascia are too much, and in many ways, their design is better suited to the high-performance X6 M.

Speaking of which, BMW is currently testing the X5 M on the Nurburgring. The G05 and G06 will rely on the S63 engine from the previous models, based on the N63 and capable of up to 625 PS (616 horsepower) in the M5 Competition and M8 Competition. Maximum torque? Look forward to 750 Nm (553 pound-feet) between 1,800 and 5,600 rpm.

Based on the G05 and spy shots of the G06, the X6 won’t differ too much in terms of interior design to the lesser but more practical X5. Two displays with a diagonal of 12.3 inches are the highlights of the luxed-up cabin, along with gesture control and many more bells and whistles.

On that note, expect BMW to come clean about the X6 as soon as July 3rd, including the photographs and specifications you’ve been waiting for.
